Diamond Forky

May 17 2008

While hiking up in Diamond Fork Canyon, I found this nice shed antler. It is a 2 point (a forky) with a large eye guard (although the picture doesn't show that part well).

It was a beautiful day and there were lots of birds singing. I went back another day to look for other antlers but I wasn't that lucky. However, that day was also incredible due to the soothing sound of the creek rushing past, the call of the birds, and the beauty of the new spring growth.

March Memories

Dad, Brian, Tanner, and I went out near Mount Pleasant for a bunny hunt. The weather was a little chilly, but we still had a lot of fun tromping through the snow together. We got into a lot of rabbits who tested our speed and accuracy. Unsurprisingly, Dad was the best shot of the day. It was fun to see him at the top of his game.

We were amazed at how many deer we saw. It appears that this is a good wintering area. I hope they can hang on for a little longer when warmer weather will produce the long needed spring food.

While hiking in Indianola, I came across several sets of cougar tracks. These were near a kill and were fresh. I was admittedly a little nervous and started to talk and to sing out loud so that if the cougar was still around, then I wouldn't surprise him.

Saturday Adventure Feb. 2008

I saw several of these imprints while I was out looking for rabbits. This is by Indianola. I think it is an owl or a hawk. I couldn't tell what it grabbed though.Just north and west of Moroni is some incredible rabbit hunting. I had a blast running around in the snow playing Elmer Fudd.

This was the first grouse that I harvested while at the Y. I was up in Ray's Valley past Diamond fork canyon.
